2013 SEASON IN REVIEW . . .

July 25, 2013 - Hamilton Post 31's season ended with a 7-3 loss to Cherry Hill Post 372 in the District 4 tournament at West Deptford.

Hamilton finished its season with a 21-12 record.

July 22, 2013 - Eddie Ashley had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs, and Chris Geraci pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief as Hamilton Post 31 remained alive in the District 4 tournament with a 4-1 victory over Barnegat Post 232 at Union Field in West Deptford.

Ashley led off the bottom of the first inning with his first homer of the season and Ross Colton extended the lead with an RBI single in the fifth. After Geraci, in relief of starter Steven Loney, snuffed out a Barnegat rally in the sixth, B.J. Dudeck's seventh-inning single put Hamilton ahead 3-1. Ashley drove in the final run in the eighth with a two-out basehit bunt that scored Shane Plunkett.

Loney struck out seven in 5.1 innings to earn his fifth win of the season, while Geraci notched his fourth save.

July 21, 2013 - Despite 7.1 strong innings of pitching by P.J. Wiegartner and three hits from B.J. Dudeck, Hamilton Post 31 was defeated, 5-3, by Washington Twp. Post 521 in the opening game of the District 4 tournament in West Deptford.

Hamilton faces Barnegat Post 232 in an elimination game on July 22 at 4 p.m.

Austin Constantini had two hits, including a double, for Post 31.

July 18, 2013 - Ross Colton's RBI double in the top of the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and Hamilton Post 31 went on to defeat Hightstown Post 148, 7-5, at Mercer County Park in the final game of the regular season.

Colton's hit plated Ryan Scholey with the go-ahead run, and Eddie Ashley followed with a sacrifice fly to score Shane Plunkett. The final run of the inning scored on an error. Chris Geraci pitched the final two innings and the victory improved his record to 5-1.

Hamilton finished the regular season with an overall record of 20-10 and went 15-9 in league play. Post 31 opens district-tournament play on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Union Field in West Deptford.

July 17, 2013 - Hamilton Post 31 was defeated, 10-0, by West Windsor-Plainsboro at West Windsor-Plainsboro South High.

Brian Watkinson was the losing pitcher.

July 16, 2013 - Anthony Peroni had four RBIs and P.J. Wiegartner allowed just an unearned run as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Princeton Post 218, 11-1, at Rich Giallella Field. Post 31's victory clinched a berth in the state tournament for the 24th time in the last 27 seasons.

Peroni drove in single runs in the first and third innings, and belted a two-run double as part of an eight-run fourth inning which helped Hamilton put the game out of reach. Wiegartner, meanwhile, scattered eight hits in improving his record to 2-1. He struck out two and did not issue a walk.

Hamilton has two more regular-season games remaining on the schedule and will open tournament play on Sunday at a site to be determined. Since 1987, Post 31 has qualified for state play every season except 1989, 2007, and 2011.

July 15, 2013 - P.J. Wiegartner had three RBIs, Eddie Ashley drove in two runs, and Chris Geraci pitched two perfect innings of relief as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Ewing Post 314, 6-4, at Moody Park in a continuation of a game which began on June 26.

Wiegartner doubled in a run to open the scoring in the second inning, then hit a two-run double to tie the game at 4-4. Ashley also doubled in a run in the second and drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to close out the scoring. Geraci retired all six batters he faced to improve his record to 4-1.

The game began on June 26 and lasted one inning before torrential rains forced a postponement.

July 14, 2013 - B.J. Dudeck, Anthony Peroni and Shane Keledy each had an RBI, but Hamilton Post 31 fell to Bordentown Post 26, 5-3, in eight innings at Rich Giallella Field.

July 13, 2013 - Kyle Muller retired 16 of the final 17 batters and P.J. Wiegartner drove in four runs as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Bordentown Post 26, 9-3, at Gilder Field.

Muller allowed two hits and three runs (two earned) in the first, then held Bordentown hitless the rest of the way in running his record to 4-0.

Wiegartner had three hits to go along with his four RBIs. He drove in a run in the first with a single, had an RBI double in the third, and a two-run single in the seventh. B.J. Dudeck had two RBIs, and John Mastrangelo and Nick LaBelle had one each.

July 11, 2013 - P.J. Wiegartner allowed just three hits and one earned run, but Hamilton Post 31 was defeated by Broad St. Park Post 313, 3-2, at Nottingham High.

John Mastrangelo had two of Post 31's five hits. B.J. Dudeck hit his second home run of the season and Shane Plunkett also had an RBI.

July 9, 2013 - Shane Plunkett's two-run, two-out double in the fourth inning helped lead Hamilton Post 31 to a 3-2 victory over Trenton Post 93 at Rich Giallella Field.

John Mastrangelo singled with one out in the fourth and then with two outs, Nick LaBelle singled to set the stage for Plunkett, who lifted a tailing flyball to right field which dropped in to score the eventual tying and winning runs.

Chris Geraci came out of the bullpen to pitch four innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three. The win improved Geraci's record to 2-1.

July 8, 2013 - Steven Loney and John Mastrangelo combined on a four-hitter as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Ewing Post 314, 2-1, at Rich Giallella Field.

Loney at one point retired 12 consecutive batters and allowed just one run over 5.2 innings to improve his record to 4-3, while Mastrangelo struck out three of the final four batters he faced to record his first save of the season.

P.J. Wiegartner drove in a run in the first inning on a groundout and Eddie Ashley plated a run in the second with a sacrifice fly.

July 7, 2013 - P.J. Wiegartner drove in two runs, and B.J. Dudeck and Brian Watkinson each had two hits, but it wasn't enough as Hamilton Post 31 was defeated by Endicott (N.Y.) Post 82, 7-4, in the semifinals of the Hall of Fame Classic in Binghamton, N.Y.

Wiegartner's two-run double gave Post 31 a 3-1 lead in the third inning, but Hamilton was unable to make the margin stand. The defeat snapped a seven-game Hamilton winning streak.

July 6, 2013 - P.J. Wiegartner allowed a single to the first batter he faced, then did not allow a hit the rest of the way in a complete-game effort as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Shrub Oak (N.Y.) Post 1080, 10-0, in the Hall of Fame Classic in Binghamton, N.Y. The victory advances Hamilton to the tournament semifinals.

Wiegartner struck out three, walked none, and retired 15 of the final 16 batters he faced to record his first victory of the season.

Hamilton struck for 10 runs in the first inning. Wiegartner drove in the first two runs with a single, Dan Mostrangeli drew a bases-loaded walk, Shane Plunkett hit a two-run single, Eddie Ashley drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Austin Constantini had a two-run double, B.J. Dudeck plated a run with a double, and John Mastrangelo closed out the scoring with an RBI single.

July 5, 2013 - Eddie Ashley had four hits and Matt Moticha struck out 10 batters in a complete-game effort at Hamilton Post 31 defeated Vestal (N.Y.) Post 89, 11-2, in the Hall of Fame Classic in Binghamton, N.Y.

Ashley, Austin Constantini and P.J. Wiegartner had two RBIs each for Hamilton, while John Mastrangelo hit a home run for a third straight game, the first Post 31 player ever to accomplish that feat.

The victory improved Moticha's record to 2-1. He allowed nine hits and two unearned runs, and did not issue a walk.

July 4, 2013 - P.J. Wiegartner hit a three-run homer and John Mastrangelo homered and drove in four runs as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Binghamton (N.Y.) Post 80, 15-1, in the Hall of Fame Classic in Binghamton, N.Y.

Wiegartner's homer was part of a six-run second inning for Hamilton, which also featured a two-run single by Austin Constantini. After Wiegartner's blast, Mastrangelo followed with his second home run of the season.

Steven Loney pitched a complete game to even his record at 3-3.

July 4, 2013 - John Mastrangelo hit a three-run homer to highlight a four-run third inning as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Columbia (Md.) Post 300, 8-3, in the Hall of Fame Classic in Binghamton, N.Y.

Austin Constantini added two RBIs and Eddie Ashley had two hits for Hamilton.

Nick LaBelle earned the win in relief, pitching 1.1 innings.

July 3, 2013 - B.J. Dudeck drove in four runs and Kyle Muller struck out six and allowed just three hits over six innings as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Adrean (N.Y.) Post 625, 8-0, in the opening game of the Hall of Fame Classic in Binghamton, N.Y..

Dudeck's two-run double in a six-run third inning accounted for the game's first two runs. Ryan Scholey also had a two-run double in the frame and Nick LaBelle added a two-run single. Dudeck closed out the scoring with a two-run homer in the sixth.

The victory improved Muller's record to 3-0. John Mastrangelo pitched the seventh inning, retiring all three batters he faced.

June 30, 2013 - Ross Colton tripled in the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Eddie Ashley as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Princeton Post 218, 3-1, at Smoyer Park.

Chris Geraci pitched two scoreless innings in recording his second win of the season. Matt Moticha pitched the first five innings, allowing only an unearned run.

Ashley doubled and scored on an Austin Constantini single in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1.

June 29, 2013 - P.J. Wiegartner and Dan Mostrangeli homered as Hamilton Post 31 had its highest scoring output of the season, defeating Lawrence Post 414, 13-3, at Eggerts Crossing Field.

Wiegartner hit a three-run homer in the first to start the scoring, and had four RBIs overall. Mostrangeli began the second inning with a solo homer. Anthony Peroni drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning.

Nick LaBelle pitched six innings to earn his first victory of the season.

June 28, 2013 - Hopewell Post 339 (2-11) pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Hamilton Post 31, 5-4, at The Hun School.

It is the first time in Rick Freeman's 28 years as manager that Post 31 lost to a team that was four or more games below .500.

June 27, 2013 - Steven Loney struck out five and did not issue a walk over six innings, but it wasn't enough as Hamilton Post 31 was defeated by Allentown, 3-2, at Rich Giallella Field.

June 23, 2013 - Matt Moticha pitched six innings, allowing just two hits and two runs, as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Robbinsville Post 530, 4-2, at Mercer County Park.

Moticha retired the last five batters he faced in gaining his first victory of the season. Chris Gerace pitched a scoreless seventh inning to record his third save of the year.

B.J. Dudeck had a two-run single and P.J. Wiegartner followed with an RBI single in a three-run third inning for Hamilton. Ross Colton drove in a run with an RBI groundout in the first. Wiegartner went 3-for-3 to pace a seven-hit Post 31 attack.

June 22, 2013 - Holding a one-run lead with two outs and nobody on in the top of the seventh, Hamilton Post 31 allowed three runs and lost to North Hamilton, 5-3, at Mercer County Park.

It was the first time Post 31 lost in such a fashion since June 18, 1986, when Bordentown Post 26 scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh for a 6-5 victory.

June 21, 2013 - Kyle Muller pitched into the seventh inning, allowing just three hits, as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Broad St. Park Post 313, 2-1, at Rich Giallella Field.

Muller struck out three in improving his record to 2-0. He was relieved by Chris Geraci with one out in the seventh and a runner on second. After a walk, Geraci struck out the next two batters to seal the victory and earn his second save of the season.

B.J. Dudeck had three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI to pace the offense. P.J. Wiegartner also drove in a run.

June 16, 2013 - P.J. Wiegartner and Shane Plunkett drove in runs, but Hamilton Post 31 was defeated by West Windsor-Plainsboro, 6-2, at Rich Giallella Field.

Plunkett and Eddie Ashley had two hits apiece for Hamilton. Steven Loney (2-1) pitched five innings in the loss.

June 15, 2013 - Austin Constantini, Anthony Peroni and B.J. Dudeck had RBIs in a four-run ninth inning as Hamilton Post 31 outlasted Trenton Post 93, 7-3, at Wetzel Field.

After Hamilton took the lead on a throwing error, Constantini's sacrifice fly plated Shane Plunkett. Peroni followed with a sacrifice fly which scored Ross Colton, and Dudeck completed the rally with a single which scored Eddie Ashley.

Chris Geraci earned the win by pitching 3.2 innings of relief, while Matt Moticha struck out the only batter he faced to earn his first career save. Starting pitcher Nick LaBelle allowed just two hits in 4.2 innings of work.

June 12, 2013 - P.J. Wiegartner and John Mastrangelo drove in two runs each in a five-run fifth inning at Hamilton Post 31 defeated Hightstown Post 148, 5-1, at Rich Giallella Field.

Hamilton trailed 1-0 in the fifth when Shane Keledy reached on a one-out error, and Eddie Ashley and Austin Constantini followed with singles. Keledy scored on a wild pitch, then the bases were re-loaded with two outs, setting the stage for a two-run double by Wiegartner which broke the tie. Mastrangelo followed with a two-run single to complete the scoring.

Steven Loney pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win, while Chris Geraci struck out four of the six batters he faced to notch his first save of the season..

June 9, 2013 - Hamilton Post 31 managed only four hits in losing to Allentown, 6-2, at Rich Giallella Field.

Losing pitcher Matt Moticha (0-1) struck out five but walked five in 4 2/3 innings of work.

June 8, 2013 - Anthony Peroni's one-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning plated P.J. Wiegartner with the winning run as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Hopewell Post 339, 4-3, at Rich Giallella Field.

Wiegartner stroked a one-out single, then stole second base and scored on Peroni's drive to the left-center field gap. It was Peroni's third hit of the day. Wiegartner doubled and scored in the fourth inning.

John Mastrangelo was the winning pitcher. Starting pitcher Steven Loney allowed just two hits and struck out five in 4 1/3 innings and reliever Chris Geraci struck out two in 1 2/3 innings.

June 6, 2013 - Kyle Muller struck out seven and allowed just two hits as Hamilton Post 31 shut out Lawrence Post 414, 10-0, at Rich Giallella Field.

Muller retired the first eight batters he faced and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning in gaining his first American Legion victory. Muller threw first-pitch strikes to 13 of the 19 batters he faced.

B.J. Dudeck, John Mastrangelo and Ryan Scholey had two RBIs apiece. Eddie Ashley, Austin Constantini, Mastrangelo, Scholey, and Shane Plunkett had two hits each to lead a 13-hit attack.

June 5, 2013 - Hamilton Post 31 fell to North Hamilton, 9-4, at Trenton Catholic Academy.

Nick LaBelle was the losing pitcher. Shane Plunkett knocked in a run and Ross Colton had two RBIs during a three-run second inning.

June 4, 2013 - B.J. Dudeck's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning plated Ross Colton with the winning run as Hamilton Post 31 defeated Robbinsville Post 530, 4-3, in the season opener for both teams at Rich Giallella Field.

Colton led off the inning with a single to center, then was sacrificed to second by Eddie Ashley. After walks to Austin Constantini and John Mastrangelo, Dudeck delivered the game-winner on the first pitch as Post 31 won its season opener for the fourth straight season and for the 11th time in the last 12 years.

Steven Loney picked up the win in relief of starter Matt Moticha. Loney entered the game in the fifth inning with two on and no outs, and worked three innings of hitless relief.
